Rembrandt van Rijn was a Dutch painter and etcher known for his expressive use of light and shadow, and his ability to capture the human soul. He was born in 1606 in Leiden, Netherlands, and studied under Pieter Lastman. He is best known for his paintings such as The Night Watch, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, and The Jewish Bride. Rembrandt is considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history. His work had a significant influence on the Dutch Golden Age and Baroque painting.
