Caravaggio

Caravaggio was an Italian Baroque painter known for his dramatic use of light and shadow and his realistic depictions of religious and mythological scenes. He was born in 1571 in Milan, Italy, and studied under Simone Peterzano. He is best known for his paintings such as The Calling of Saint Matthew, The Conversion of Saint Paul, and The Death of the Virgin. Caravaggio's work had a profound influence on the development of Baroque painting.
